Cabinet Vehemently Condemns Terrorist Attacks against Bir Hasan Area in Beirut

 DAMASCUS-The Syrian Cabinet vehemently condemned the coward terrorist attack which targeted Bir Hasan area in the southern suburb of the Lebanese Capital Beirut on Wednesday.

In a statement on Wednesday, Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi stressed that countries supporting, sponsoring and financing terrorism are responsible for the two terrorist blasts which hit Bir Hasan area and for the other terrorist attacks which became a source of worry and instability in Lebanon, Syria and the entire region.”  

The premier reiterated that the United Nations and the Security Council “should do their best to face the terrorism which is threatening the world as a whole, through adopting certain decisions that force terrorism supporting countries to halt this support.”  

In Beirut, the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported that twin terrorist bombings targeted Bir Hassan area on Wednesday. The attacks were carried out by means of two booby-trapped cars: a Mercedes and a BMW.

Lebanese Health minister wael Abou Fa’our said that the death toll of the two explosions has so far become 5 martyrs, while the number of injured people exceeded 80.

According to Al-Manar TV website, the terrorist bombings hit near the Kuwaiti embassy, leaving dozens of martyrs and injured.

Security sources confirmed that the bombings coincided, adding that they were targeting the cultural center of the Iranian embassy in Beirut.

The first explosion took place near Gondoline sweets, adding that the second took place near an army base, said al-Manar correspondent.

Shortly after the blasts, ambulance, Civil Defense vehicles rushed to the scene.

 The Iranian embassy in Beirut confirmed that all the staff was safe.
