Cabinet discusses efforts to put Damascus-Aleppo international highway in service

On February 16, the cabinet discussed the mechanism for the distribution of cooking gas cylinders via the services e-card and the necessary measures to supply citizens with that gas spontaneously in the optimal way.

During its weekly session chaired by Prime Minister Imad Khamis, the Cabinet asked the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to increase the cooking gas production capacity in light of the arrival of new supplies.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Ali Ghanem said that the daily consumption of cooking gas increased from one thousand tons to 1,200 tons per day during winter and that 50 percent is secured through gas production plants and refineries.

He added the remaining amount is secured through external supply contracts, indicating the irregularity of the supply plan is due to the economic sanctions, in addition to the systematic targeting of oil facilities, gas plants and storage warehouses for the cooking gas in the Homs refinery, which directly led to a lack of local production.

The Cabinet demanded the Ministries of Transportation and Local Administration to exert more efforts to finish the primary rehabilitation of the Damascus-Aleppo international highway (M5), which had been liberated by the Syrian Arab Army from terrorism.

The Cabinet demanded the Ministry of Electricity to start rebuilding the Hama-Aleppo power line.

Minister of Tourism Mohamed Rami Radwan Martini noted that two committees were assigned to follow up on government projects.

For his part, Minister of Industry Eng. Muhammad Maan Zain Al-Abidin pointed out that practical steps have been taken to secure production requirements to restore the 700 industrial establishments to work.
