Cabinet approves three projects to develop agricultural sector

Damascus, (ST) -The Cabinet, in its weekly meeting yesterday under the chairmanship of Imad Khamis, Prime Minister defined its vision for the development of the agricultural sector and to address the challenges that lie ahead, including a positive impact on the citizen and rural poor families.

The Cabinet approved three agricultural projects, the first one to encourage domestic agriculture by providing productive grants to poor rural families that help them in the establishment of agricultural activity either vegetarian or animal where it is proposed to implement nearly five thousand household gardens as free grant on an annual basis in various provinces.

The second project is linked to poultry sector and includes the Cabinet’s adoption to allow the import of animal feed and finding a mechanism for a government support for supporting fodder local plants in order to reach a lower and competitive in addition to the launch of home education project for poultry and securing the necessary requirements.

On the other hand, the Cabinet form of specialization working group to develop and promote the agricultural industry which is the third project for encouraging agricultural industries that make up 11 percent of GDP and its role in supplying the domestic market of local industrial products and to raise exports to secure foreign exchange rates to bring added value to the national economy.

The Cabinet also discussed the mechanism for the implementation and launching the project of rural woman, which constitutes 50 percent of the workforce in the agricultural sector in the rural labor and to take the necessary measures to support through giving them operating loans for the establishment of micro-projects generating income so as to contribute in bringing about rural development and provide employment opportunities for the operation of labor and improve the livelihoods.

The Cabinet also discussed a ministerial draft on the specific work program for the coming period to support the economic side and the basic needs of citizens. It reviewed the ways to address the issue of forest fires and unjust logging.
