Cabinet approves Economic Committee’s recommendation to continue supporting requirements of the production of strategic crops

Prime Minister Hussein Arnous on Sunday approved the recommendation of the Economic Committee, which includes continuing to provide support for agricultural production requirements for strategic crops received by public sector institutions, and for major crops and livestock according to available capabilities.

The Cabinet also agreed to continue providing support for the final product of crops marketed by state institutions in the interest of farmers, and according to the available capabilities. It also agreed to include the loans, granted to farmers regarding agricultural products intended for export, in the interest rate subsidy program.

These measures come as part of the government’s directive to provide support to the agricultural sector, the “final product”, to reduce the interest on loans granted to farmers by the Agricultural Bank and to include major crops in the import substitution program.
