It’s a vegetarian, very healthy, frugal dish.
Bulgur is a processed wheat product traditional in Syria. It is made from whole grains that have been steamed, hulled, dried, crushed and sorted by size. Bulgur can be stored for several months without spoiling.
Bulgur is packed with fiber and is low calorie.
Bulgur with Tomato sauce is easy-to-do and tasty Syrian dish is made of bulgur, tomatoes and onions. You can serve plain yogurt next to it or Arabic salad.
Ingredients:
1- 1 cup coarse bulgur
2- Olive oil
3- 1 big onion, finely chopped
4- 1 garlic clove, crushed
5- 1,5 kg Fresh tomatoes, peeled and finely diced
6- 2 Green Pepper finely diced
7- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
8- 2 cups water
Salt and pepper
INSTRUCTIONS:
1- Heat olive oil in a pot, add the onion for a few minutes.
2- Stir in the diced tomato, green pepper, tomato paste, salt and black pepper.
3- Then add bulgur and saute all together for 3-5 minutes..
4- Add the water to bulgur and cover the pot.
5- Then let it simmered for 15-20 minutes or until the bulgur is fully and absorbed all the liquid.
Serve it hot with yogurt or salad.
