Bulgarian politician: Serious consequences await the country due to the authorities’ position on Russia
Sofia, (ST) – Former Bulgarian Deputy Energy Minister Yavor Koyumdzhiyev criticized the country’s authorities’ approach to Russia, which will lead to a significant rise in gas prices. He described this approach as “stupid”.
The former Bulgarian official said in a statement carried by RIA Novosti that “the prices of gas in the country will rise to an intolerable level because of the stupidity committed by the country’s authorities with regard to Russia. He added that what we are witnessing in the market now is madness and in practice Bulgaria has returned to buy the same Russian gas again, but it is from the market worldwide at high prices.
He considered that when we ourselves abandon the contract with Russia that guarantees us refueling and predictability, what we see now happens. This is the biggest stupidity that can be done, which is to buy from the market and give up a long-term contract at predictable prices.
The former Bulgarian official pointed out that the Bulgarian authorities will find themselves forced to borrow to pay for fuel this winter.
