Bulat: Turkey wants a Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement with Syria

Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bulat expressed his country’s desire to negotiate a Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement with Syria between the two countries.

“Syrian government officials have expressed their desire to cooperate with Turkey in all fields, from increasing trade and joint investments, improving infrastructure and energy to transport,”Bulat was quoted as saying by the Anadolu news agency shortly before his return from Syria after a two-day visit.

Bulat reiterated the keenness of Turkey, the government and the people to support the new Syrian authorities, as it has always stood with the Syrian people in their quest for freedom, adding: “the stability, strength and unity of Syria means the stability and strength of Turkey, and it means eliminating the problem of terrorism, significantly eliminating the problem of migration, the ability to reach the Gulf and the Middle East through direct land routes, and increasing trade exchange between the two countries.

“We expressed Turkey’s desire to negotiate a Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement with Syria at the new stage, and our readiness for these negotiations,” Bulat said, calling on Arab and Islamic countries to take decisive measures to help Syria in reconstruction.
