DAMASCUS, (ST)-Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban, the Presidential Political and Media Advisor, has stressed that instead of building a bridge seeking truth about events in Syria the western media has built a barrier between Syria and the western societies.
Shaaban, who made the remarks during a meeting on Thursday with a British delegation of parliamentarians, academics and clergymen, said “the European countries deeds contradict their words.”
The West should listen to the Syrian viewpoint directly from the Syrians not from what the Western media circulates, according to Shaaban.
The presidential advisor stressed the need that Syria’s voice reaches Western citizens and decision makers, particularly in the European and British political institution.
“It has become evident that the British and French governments adopt and back what Saudi Arabia and Qatar are circulating in their media outlets,” Shaaban said.
She asserted that Syria has been the cradle of tolerance and convergence among heavenly religions.
Shaaban reiterated that the basis of the ongoing conflict is the Arab-Israeli conflict and that “Israel” is the main beneficiary of bloodbath in Syria and the Arab region.
Head of the British delegation Father Andrew Ashdown said that the delegation visited Syria to know what is really going on in the country through talking to the Syrians themselves away from what has been circulated by the Western media.
On his part, David Clark, an archeology researcher in Cambridge University, said he was interested in knowing the mechanism through which the process of reconstruction and rehabilitation in Syria will be launched to guarantee the return of the displaced people to their areas.
Members of the delegation focused in their inquiries on the political solution to the crisis in Syria, the return of the displaced to their homeland and the role of European countries, especially Britain and France in the ongoing events in Syria.
They vowed to convey the Syrians’ voice to the British people and tell the truth about the reality of events in Syria to the British people and media.
