Britain at the UN Security Council: We are committed to supporting a comprehensive and prosperous future for the Syrian people

Britain has expressed its support for the formation of the new Syrian government and its readiness to collaborate with Syria to foster a comprehensive, stable, and prosperous future for the Syrian people.

In a statement made to the Security Council during a meeting called for by Algeria and Somalia regarding Israeli attacks on Syria, the Deputy Political Coordinator of Britain, Jess Jambert-Gray, said, “Syria has made significant positive strides in its political transition. We welcome the announcement of the new Syrian government and stand ready to work with the Syrian government to support a comprehensive, stable, and prosperous future for its people.”
According to the British Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, Gray stated that repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory threaten to destabilize not only Syria but the entire region. She expressed Britain’s concern over these attacks, which serve no one’s interests. Gray emphasized the need for Israel to abide by international law, adhere to the 1974 disengagement agreement, respect the unity of Syrian territory, and avoid actions that could escalate tensions, potentially harming the Syrian people.
Gray highlighted her country’s aspirations to achieve several objectives in Syria, including the protection of human rights and the provision of unrestricted humanitarian access. She noted that the formation of the new Syrian government represents an important milestone in the political transition process and that inclusive representation should extend to all state institutions. Gray reiterated Britain’s commitment to providing $207 million in essential humanitarian assistance to Syria, emphasizing the need to prioritize support for Syrians as they work to rebuild their country.
She also called on all parties to ensure continued humanitarian access throughout Syria and to protect civilian lives.
Gray reaffirmed that Britain will continue to collaborate with international partners to assist Syrians in their efforts to create a better future.
