Brazil Rejects Unilateral Coercive Measures Imposed on the Syrians

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee and the Syrian-Brazilian Friendship Committee at the Syrian People’s Assembly on Saturday held a meeting with a Brazilian parliamentary delegation led by Senator Fernando de Mello to discuss boosting parliamentary relations to serve the higher interests of the peoples of the two countries.

Boutros Murjana, Head of the Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee, affirmed the importance of cooperation between the Syrian People’s Assembly and the Brazilian Senate and parliament, urging coordination between the two countries at international forums with the purpose of ending the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

 On his part, head of the Brazilian delegation affirmed his country’s support for intra Syrian dialogue to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria. He stressed Brazil’s rejection of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria, because imposing such measures is a bid to weaken the United Nations and the international laws and to underestimate the principles of the World Trade Organization.

De Mello added that the Brazilian Embassy in Damascus continues its work despite the terrorist war imposed on Syria, pointing out that his country is working to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Syrians through providing donations and humanitarian aid and through supporting reconstruction in the country.

He hailed the steadfastness of the Syrian people against terrorism and the achievements of the Syrian army in the fight against terrorism which led to the improvement of the situation in Syria.
