HOMS, (ST)- A Brazilian parliamentary delegation led by Senator Fernando De Mello, head of the Brazilian Senate’s Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee, visited the Syrian city of Homs and toured the archeological markets, Umm al-Zunnar as well as al-Arbaeeen Churches and al-Ghassaneyyeh school. The delegation also saw the renovation works in al-Masqouf and al-Qaysareyeh markets in old Homs.
De Mello condemned the damage caused to worshipping places by terrorists, saying that such terror acts aim at undermining the rich Syrian history.
He added that his country hosts four million and a half Brazilian citizens of Syrian origin who have contributed to building Brazil. He stressed that contacts between Syria and Brazil continue and that his country is ready to provide support for reconstruction in Syria and for the achievement of peace in the country.
