Brazil condemns Israeli attack on Iranian Consulate in Damascus, calls for respecting countries’ sovereignty
The Brazilian Foreign Ministry, in a statement on Thursday, condemned the Israeli attack that targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus, reminding that all countries should respect the principle of protecting diplomatic and consular representation as defined by Vienna Conventions on diplomatic and consular relations of 1961 and 1963.
The ministry also affirmed the need to respect countries’ sovereignty and territorial integrity as one of the main principles of the United Nations, urging all concerned parties to practice utmost self-restraint.
“The Brazilian government is concerned over the spread of aggressive acts in the region which would have bad impacts on the stability of the Middle East,” the ministry added.
