Brahimi: Reports on President Al-Assad’s Role in Transitional Era Not Precise

DAMASCUS- (ST)- UN Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi denies media reports on President Bashar al-Assad’s role in the transitional era and stresses that only the Syrians decide this.

In a statement on Tuesday Brahimi, who is visiting Syria, dismissed as “absolutely not precise” reports by some Arab and foreign media outlets quoting him on President Al-Assad’s role in the transitional era in Syria.

He stressed that only the Syrians can decide who will lead the transitional era in the light of Geneva 2 conference.

Brahimi said: “We are preparing for Geneva2 which will bring together Syrian parties to specify features of the transitional era and the stage after”.

On Monday, Brahimi arrived in Damascus to meet senior Syrian officials for talks on the situation in Syria and preparations to hold Geneva2 conference.
