Borrell: Netanyahu’s government continues to violate international and humanitarian law

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, confirmed that the Israeli government continues to violate international and humanitarian law, through its actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
Borrell said during a meeting attended by ninety delegates from member states of the International Coalition to Resolve the Palestinian Issue, hosted by the Belgian capital, Brussels, today: “What is happening in the Gaza Strip is a flagrant violation of human rights, and we need a ceasefire as a first step, then a political solution for peace. We also have to protect the United Nations and international law.”
Borrell added: “We cannot undermine the work of the International Criminal Court, and the Europeans must support ICC work and strengthen its decisions,” referring to France’s withdrawal from its commitment to the arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Regarding the situation in Lebanon, Borrell stressed the importance of providing strong support to the Lebanese army, which he described as crucial for Lebanon, noting that there is a glimmer of hope after the ceasefire agreement that came into effect at dawn yesterday.
