Lieutenant Colonel Moayad Al Salama, Commander of the Western Region in the Border Security Department affirmed that last week there were clashes with armed smuggling gangs in the villages of Hawik, Jarmash, Wadi Al -Hourani and the Syrian Akum, during a campaign that we launched to control the country’s western borders from smuggling operations.
Al -Salama said in a statement: Most of the smuggling gangs on the Lebanese border are affiliated with Hezbollah militia which poses a threat due to their presence on the Syrian border by sponsoring the smugglers of narcotic drugs and weapons.
Al -Salama added: In turn, the former regime also converted the Syrian -Lebanese border into drug trafficking corridors in cooperation with the Hezbollah militia, which helped to enhance the presence of armed smuggling gangs in the border area.
Al -Salama said: During the combing campaign, our forces managed to seize a large number of farms, warehouses, and the planting and canning laboratories of hashish and captagon grains in addition to printers that specialize in printing forged currency.
He added that, we also seized many arms shipments and narcotic materials in the border areas with Lebanon, which was on its way to cross the borders.
Al -Salama continued: We confirm that we did not target the Lebanese interior, despite the bombing that affected our units by Hezbollah militia, and our operations were limited to the Syrian villages, and targeted armed smuggling gangs and those who fought with them from the remnants and militias.
Al -Salama said: We have set an integrated plan to fully control the borders, taking into account the existing challenges, to protect our people from all the dangers that target them.
