Bolton’s confession calls for an international investigation, says Zakharova

Moscow, (ST) –  Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the confessions of former US National Security Adviser John Bolton about his help in planning coup attempts in other countries call for an international investigation.

Zakharova said on her account on the Telegram website on Wednesday that, “John Bolton, the former national security advisor to former President Donald Trump, said that he was involved in planning coups abroad.”  She stressed that this was an incident warrants an international investigation.

Bolton had made statements to CNN after a congressional hearing yesterday about the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol in Washington, in which he said that he helped plan coup attempts in other countries, but he refused to give details about these attempts, only pointing out to Venezuela.

In another context, about the candidates applying for the position of British Prime Minister to succeed Boris Johnson, Zakharova commented by saying that, “they are not new people because the same people who have participated in decision-making for many years do not constitute new opportunities.”

Zakharova went on to say that, this is their internal life in their country, and let them decide for themselves how they will build their foreign and domestic policy, whether it will be aggressive or will it be directed towards international cooperation. “It will be up to the British to decide”, she added.

Today, the British Parliament is scheduled to hold the first round of elections for the position of British Prime Minister after the resignation of Boris Johnson.
