MOSCOW, (ST)-Michael Bogdanov, the Special Envoy of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, on Monday discussed with Syria’s Grand Mufti Badre Eddin Hassoun the latest developments in Syria and the importance of launching comprehensive inter-Syrian dialogue.
A statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry said Bogdanov and Hassoun who is visiting Syria to take part in the Forum of the Strategic Vision Group: “Russia and Islamic World”, held talks on the situation in Syria and the region.
The ministry’s statement stressed the importance of immediately launching a wide and comprehensive dialogue among the Syrians based on June 30th, 2012 Geneva Statement.
In a nother statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Bogdanov also met yesterday in Moscow with Rima al-Qaderi, head of the Planning and International Cooperation Commission, and exchanged with her viewpoints on the situation in Syria and on necessity of attaining political settlement of the crisis as to restore peace and stability to the country.
The statement affirmed that the two sides expressed mutual intention to boost bilateral ties in different domains.
