Blocking Iranian news websites is a measure that contradicts freedom of expression, says Vaezi

Tehran, (ST) – The Director of the Iranian President’s office, Mahmoud Vaezi, condemned the United States’ ban on a number of Iranian news websites, considering it incompatible with freedom of expression.

Vaezi said in a statement that, “the policy of closing news websites is an unconstructive American approach, and we will confront it with international legal tools.” He said that, this measure is “unconstructive in light of the Vienna negotiations to revive the nuclear agreement signed in 2015.”

Last night, the US authorities suspended Iranian, Yemeni and Iraqi news websites and prevented them from broadcasting on the Internet, in a step that proves the falsehood of US allegations of respecting freedom of expression and media, and confirms the continuation of double standards to serve the interests and dominance of the United States in the region and the world.

Vaezi pointed out that the Vienna negotiations are heading towards reaching a mechanism to prevent a recurrence of what happened to the nuclear agreement during the era of former US President Donald Trump. He added that, the National Security Council is studying Iran’s options regarding the expiration of the conditional agreement with the agency.

Vaezi stressed that the nuclear agreement is not subject to renegotiation, and some statements by US officials in this regard are for internal consumption He said that,“the Vienna negotiations discuss the obligations of the parties to the nuclear agreement, not reaching a new agreement.”
