Bishop Hanna: Syria is Targeted Because of its Principled Stances

NEWYORK, (ST)_ Bishop Atallah Hanna, Archbishop of Sebastia of the Greek Orthodox Church stressed during his visit the headquarters of the Syrian mission at the in New York yesterday that Syria is targeted because of its unwavering positions concerning the Palestinian issue, pointing out that the enemies want to destroy this Arab country in the service of colonial and racist projects in our region.

During his meeting with Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Bishop Hanna stressed solidarity with Syria, voicing “in rejecting all schemes designed to target this country.”

“We are with Syria’s president, government, army and people and hope this ordeal will be eliminated and Syria to restore back security and peace.”

Jaafari, for his part, conveyed to Bishop Hanna greetings of the Syrian leadership and its appreciation for  his stances towards Syria and his role in Palestine, referring to the Syrian people respect and admiration to Archbishop Hanna, who has been standing by Syria, rejecting the conspiracy together with a large number of Palestinian nationalists.

Jaafari extended greetings to the Palestinian people who are struggling under the Israeli occupation, in rejection of racism, and in struggling for their freedom and dignity.

Jaafari and Bishop Hanna discussed during their meeting the situation in the Arab region, especially in Palestine and Syria.

On the other hand, Bishop Hanna visited the headquarters of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in New York City and discussed with the Archbishop of North America, Demetrius the conditions of Christians in the Arab region and the role that should be played by the church in serving justice and oppressed peoples’ issues.

Archbishop Demetrios honored Bishop Hanna for the efforts he made in the holy land of Palestine.
