Bill Regulating Entry of Arabs and Foreigners to Syria Discussed

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Within efforts aiming to maintain the rights and security of the Syrian state, the People’s Assembly (PA) on Monday discussed a bill regulating the entry of Arab and foreign persons to Syria.

In a session chaired by Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham, the PA endorsed articles relating to mechanisms of granting entry or departure permissions as well as stay licenses.

The PA members said the bill is basically connected with keeping the national sovereignty of Syria without affecting the relation with the brotherly peoples in the Arab countries. They urged sterner penalties against violators and called for treating other Arab and Foreign countries on a reciprocal basis.

Minister of Interior Mohammad al-Shaar said the bill is to regulate the Arab and Foreign persons’ entry to and departure from Syria in addition to their stay licenses in a way that guarantees the security of the country.

He added the bill targeted mainly Arabs and foreigners who had illegally entered Syria and contributed to worsening of the crisis in Syria.

The minister also pointed out that the new law will put an end to fraud and forgery crimes which accompanied the entry of Arab and foreign persons to Syria.
