Bilateral relations between Syria and Paraguay discussed by Al-Miqdad and Fernandezm

DAMASCUS, Jul.17, (ST)- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad affirmed on Sunday that Syria’s relations with Paraguay are constantly strengthening and the peoples of the two countries are committed to common principles of sovereignty and independence of political decision.

Al-Miqdad’s remarks came during his meeting with the President of the Senate of Paraguay Oscar Ruben Salomon Fernandezm who is currently on an official visit to Syria.

During the meeting Al-Miqdad spoke about the relations between the two countries and the need to activate and deepen cooperation in the political and economic fields.

He also talked about the recent developments in Syria and the role played by the Syrian community abroad and in Paraguay to greatly enhance relations between the two countries.

“The West’s support for terrorism in Syria with weapons and billions of dollars is a continuation of its aggressive policy against Syria and the Syrian people,” the minister said, stressing that Western policies which support terrorism in Syria impede the political efforts being exerted to restore normal conditions to it, and that the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the country are immoral and contradict international law and affects the Syrian citizen in the most basic aspects of his life.

For his part, Fernandezm asserted  his country’s interest in strengthening relations with Syria, referring to the role of Syrian expatriates and citizens of Syrian origin in strengthening these relations.

He added that the ties between the peoples of Syria and Paraguay allow the development of bilateral relations on more than one level, indicating that what he observed during his visit to Syria differs from what the malicious media is promoting.

Fernandezm arrived yesterday in Syria heading a delegation composed of member of the Paraguayan Senate, Head of the senate’s Foreign Relations Committee Juan Afra Miguel, Paraguay’s Ambassador in Beirut, the Charge de Affairs of the Paraguayan Embassy in Damascus Fernandez Parisi, the Honorary Consul of Paraguay in Syria Mohammad Qattan and Syria’s Honorary Consul in Paraguay Mou’taz Al-Khatieb.
