Belarus Seeks Importing Syrian Cotton, Phosphate and Agricultural Products: Minister

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Syria and Belarus on Thursday discussed facilitating trade exchange and continuous contacts to expand the base of cooperation.

Syria’s Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohamad Samer al-Khalil, during his meeting with the Belarusian Industry Minister Utiupin Pavel Vladimirovich, said that the ministry in coordination with the Syrian-Belarusian Business Council and the Syrian private sector will start executive steps to develop and encourage trade and investment cooperation. He reviewed the ministry’s procedures to increase trade exchange value, noting that the ministry has provided the Belarusian side with a list of Syrian goods that are available for exportation.

 On his part Vladimirovich said that his country wants to import some Syrian products like cotton, phosphate and some agricultural products, calling for providing facilitations to the factories to bring machines and establish joint projects in Syria in accordance with direct and long-term contracts.

“Syria needs during its reconstruction process to benefit from the Belarusian expertise in the field of heavy industries and infrastructure, said Vladimirovich, reiterating the importance of activating the Syrian-Belarusian joint committee for trade, economic and technical cooperation.
