New York (ST): Belarus confirmed that Lithuania and Poland are using the border refugee crisis between the latter and Belarus as a tool to earn more money from the European Union.
Valentin Rybakov, the permanent representative of Belarus to the United Nations, told RIA Novosti: “From our point of view, Lithuania and Poland are exploiting the refugee crisis to their advantage and using it as a pretext to obtain more money from the European Union, in addition to justifying their anti-refugee policy and their many violations of their international obligations.”
Rybakov added that Warsaw and Vilnius are also seeking through the demonization of Minsk to enhance their importance and role in European and international politics, noting that Belarus, given the existence of differences between it and the European Union countries, expects the Union to take the first step and initiate dialogue to jointly solve the refugee problem.
