Belarus formally applies for accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization

Beijing (ST): The Shanghai Cooperation Organization announced that Belarus has submitted an application to join the Organization and is ready to start the necessary legal procedures for this.

SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming, according to RIA Novosti said, “Belarus has officially submitted an application to join the SCO as a full member, which indicates that Minsk has become convinced that the values and principles of the Organization are compatible with the values and principles of Belarus.”

Acting Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norova said earlier that Belarus had applied for membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and its application had been sent to member states, and admission procedures might begin during the organization’s summit to be held in Samarkand next September.
