“Beirut Nightmares”, a novel by Syrian writer Ghada Al-Samman chronicling the repercussions of the war in Lebanon

The Arab Writers Union released the second edition of the novel “Beirut Nightmares” by Syrian .ظ. writer Ghada Al-Samman, with the aim of enhancing the presence of Mrs. Al-Samman as a writer in the contemporary Syrian cultural scene.

The novel, the first edition of which was printed in 1976, recounts the details of the war in Lebanon between 1975 and 1995 and its repercussions on the human being through documenting the horrors of the war that Beirut experienced, and the slaughter, assassination and mutilation that occurred there.

The novel, which is published in 410 pages, chronicles in a literary manner most of what happened in Beirut, which was one of the most beautiful cities, and turned into horror for human beings.

In her narration, Al-Samman relied on the narrative style in a creative way, through which she combined reality and imagination. The writer depicted war scenes in a graphic way, revealing the positive and negative characters, treachery and betrayal, and what innocent children and youth suffered while facing the calamities of war.
