Beijing, (ST) – The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong protest against US President Joe Biden’s insulting statement to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“The remarks of the US side are extremely ridiculous, irresponsible and contrary to facts, seriously violate diplomatic etiquette, seriously assault China’s political dignity, and open political provocation,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning was quoted by media as saying.
“China expresses its strong indignation and firm protest,” Mao added.
Biden had described President Xi as “inappropriate”, when he was speaking yesterday during a fundraising ceremony for the US Democratic Party, and this comes the day after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s visit to Beijing ended and he met President Xi there.
Meanwhile, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that US President Joe Biden’s remark about Chinese leader Xi Jinping being a “dictator” is indicative of Washington’s unpredictable foreign policy.
When asked to comment on a Reuters report that Biden had called the Chinese president a “dictator,” Peskov said: “You know, on the one hand, it [the remark shows] an entirely contradictory manifestation of US foreign policy, which indicates a great element of unpredictability.”
