Beijing calls on Washington to lift its sanctions on Syria

China has reiterated its request to the United States of America not to politicize the humanitarian aid file and immediately lift the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria.

China called on the international community to increase this aid on the basis of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“ If the United States is genuinely interested in the humanitarian situation in Syria, it should stop politicizing the humanitarian issue and lift unilateral coercive measures on the Syrian people immediately, instead of providing baseless justifications,” The Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Zhang Jun stated on July 30.

“At this critical time, these unilateral measures undermine Syria’s ability to effectively respond to the Corona pandemic and its lifting is more important and urgent than ever,” Jun said.

He pointed out that the coercive measures have exacerbated the social, economic and humanitarian conditions of the Syrian people, who are mainly suffering from terrorism.

Jun affirmed his country’s position on the need to make all possible efforts to settle the crisis in Syria politically.
