Beijing calls on Washington to address racial discrimination within its territory

Beijing (ST): China called on the United States to address the problem of systematic racial discrimination and against minorities on its soil.

Xinhua news agency quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin as saying at a press conference that the so-called ‘China initiative’, anti-Asian statements and actions in the United States are manifestations of systemic racial discrimination and reflect the inherent problems in American society, noting that in 2020, crime cases increased.

Wang said, “Hate targeting the Asian community in the United States increased by 76 percent, and a quarter of young Asians were targeted for acts of racial discrimination and bullying. These shocking numbers have caused widespread concern in many Asian countries and the international community”.

The Chinese spokesman added that the United States should think deeply about the problem of systemic racial discrimination and take concrete measures to rectify it, protect the legitimate rights and interests of ethnic minorities including people of Asian descent, and keep them away from violence and fear and enable them to enjoy equal deserved rights.
