Battles and fire exchange continue between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces in the Karabakh region

October 4,  battles and exchange of fire between the Armenian and Azerbaijani forces continue in the Karabakh region, as the Armenian army bombed the city of Ganja, the second largest city in Azerbaijan.

“The Azerbaijani forces bombed the city of Stepanakert with shells this morning, causing severe material damage,” AFP quoted the local foreign ministry in the NagornoKarabakh region as saying.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced that the Armenian forces fired shells at the towns of Tartar and Horradiz in the Fizuli region from Khankendi. It is the Azerbaijani name for Stepanakert.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said that Ganja, the second city of Azerbaijan, was bombed by Armenian forces, while the authorities in Karabakh region indicated that they targeted a military airport in the city.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry stated that the Armenian bombing of Tartar, Pelegan and Ganja resulted in killing 22 civilians and wounding 74.

The Press Secretary of the Armenian Ministry of Defense Shushan Stepanyan published video footage of the destruction of armored vehicles of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and one of its units retreating during the fighting in Karabakh, while Azerbaijan announced the progress of its forces in a number of regions.

The Armenian and Azerbaijani sides exchanged accusations about the reasons for the military escalation which sparked on September 27 in the NagornoKarabakh region.
