BASP National Leadership on Independence Day: Syrians More Determined to Eradicate Terrorism, Foil Colonialist Schemes

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Syrian people, who struggled to win independence from the French occupation 68 years ago, are now more determined to keep on their support for the Syrian Arab Army in its national duty to fight terrorists and mercenaries, end the ongoing crisis and attain national reconciliation across the country, a statement by the Baath Arab Socialist Party National Leadership stressed on Wednesday marking the 68th anniversary of Syria’s Independence Day.

“Since winning independence, the Syrian Arab people have proved great commitment to maintaining national principles and unity and to rejecting aggression and all forms of foreign interference in their country’s affairs, because, to them, the sovereignty of the state is a sacred issue that deserves sacrifices,” the National Leadership statement said.

The statement added that the steadfastness of the Syrian people in the face of the French colonialism continues to the present day in their confrontation of the Zionist enemy and the terrorist global war waged by Zionist and American aggressive forces backed by reactionary gulf regimes.

“The Independence Day anniversary comes amid mass rallies organized in all the Syrian provinces to voice support for the Syrian army in its battle against terrorism and to reject sectarianism and foreign interference,” the statement pointed out.

“This also comes as the current French government continues its aggressive policy towards the Syrian people and persists in promoting lies and fabrications to mislead the French public opinion concerning the reality of events in Syria as if it was repeating the colonialism era through providing financial, military, media and political support for armed terrorist groups in the country aiming to undermine Syria’s historical and key role in the region,” it asserted.

The BASP National leadership pointed out that the evacuation of the French colonialists from Syria was the fruit of the Syrian people’s tireless struggle and that the Baath party was the backbone of the anti-French occupation campaign which led to independence.

The Leadership concluded by affirming that “Syria, under the leadership of the Regional Secretary of the Baath Party, President Bashar Al-Assad will continue to struggle until the last inch of the occupied Arab territories is liberated and until every spot of the Syrian land is cleared from terrorism. Syria will also fight to foil the takfiri scheme in the region and work hard to build the Arab national development project.
