BASP Foundation Anniversary Marked

DAMASCUS, (ST)_Marking the 67th Foundation Anniversary of the Baath Arab Socialist Party (BASP), the Regional Leadership of Baath Party issued a statement on Sunday affirming the party’s commitment to its responsibility regarding the enhancement of democracy and pluralism and the deepening of the concept of development and modernization.

The party Regional Leadership said that like in the past eras, the Baath Party, which has supported people’s struggle since its institutional conference on April 7th, 1947, is now proving that it can shoulder its responsibilities and be up to the expectations of the Syrian people.

“The foundation anniversary comes this year as the Syrian people and state are facing the most heinous global terrorist war in history, just because Syria was adherent to its independent decision and was a staunch defender of just Arab causes and Arabism in a time when most Arab regimes have surrendered to the domination of the imperialist powers,” the leadership said.

It added “the people in Syria were the first to confront the Ottoman occupation and later the French colonialism and the first to win independence in 1946. They were the first to stand against colonialist alliances in 1950s and were keen to foil the aspirations of the Turkish regime in Aleppo and north Syria. The Syrians were the first people who established the first Arab unity with a sisterly country (Egypt) and they were the first to build a self-dependent state in economic growth without being subjected to international funds.”

The leadership asserted that the ongoing heinous aggression on Syria’s people, state, leadership and army is faced by strong determination to defend the homeland and Arabism, pointing out that the current era has proved that the Baath party is greatly vital in terms of thinking, organization and action to defend the homeland.
