Babacan: Turkey is fighting its own citizens

The head of the opposition party “Democracy and Progress” in Turkey, Ali Babacan, denounced rising allegations against citizens who are accused of terrorism on Saturday, noting that accusing 1.5 million people of terrorism in Turkey means that the state is fighting its citizens.

Babacan’s statements came through his comment on the data of the Ministry of Justice for the year 2020, which indicated that between 2016 and 2020, one million and 576 thousand investigations had been opened for allegations of terrorism with citizens in Turkey.

Babacan found the investigation into terrorism against 1.5 million people is embarrassing, pointing out that this indicates that Turkey is fighting its own citizens, according to the Turkish Today’s Zaman newspaper”.

Commenting on the statistics of the Ministry of Justice for 2020, Vice President of the Democratic Party and Progress Mustafa Yeniroglu said: “These statistics are the clearest proof of the illegality of the vast majority of the prosecutions of armed terrorist organizations after the coup attempt.”

Since the coup attempt in 2016, the Turkish regime arrested tens of thousands of his people and dismissed 150.000 employees.
