Austrian Newspaper: Illusions of Arab Spring Promises

VIENNA, ( ST)- The Austrian newspaper, Der Standard, criticized the results of the so-called “Arab Spring”, noting that after two years of its start it proved that the promises of the West are just “illusions.”

“The West deluded the peoples so-called “Arab Spring” that it would bring democracy and support for human rights and that political Islam won’t be the owner of influence in those countries but the reality showed that the Islamization of those communities and leaderships have become a reality with the increase of disunion and division in those communities,” the newspaper pointed out.

Among the countries cited by the newspaper as an example of the lie of Western promises is Libya where human rights violations are increasing and the hopes and desires of the Libyan people did not materialize and Egypt where the forces of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafis agreed to autocracy and removing all the forces .

“What is happening in Syria is not spring but a war waged by countries including Gulf States, Turkey and the West and so-called “rebellion against the regime” which made the situation more serious and pessimistic whereas Iraq remains in a state of war since 2003 and is witnessing sectarian divisions and ethnic differences that have not ended yet,” the newspaper clarified.
