Austria’s Unit in UNDOF Remains in the Golan

VIENNA,(ST)_ Austrian President Heinz Fischer on Saturday stressed  that the Austrian unit operating within the United Nations Disengagement  Observer Force  UNDOF in the Golan will remain in the Golan, “despite the difficult situation,” pointing out that the Austrian task force implements  “absolutely necessary” mission  in keeping  peace and stability.

In a televised interview, Fisher added he had discussed the matter with the Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann, Minister of Defense Kellogg and Foreign Minister Hbindalegr and they agreed on the need that the Austrian mission to continue implementing assigned tasks, pointing out that if security situation worsened, the Austrian Government will discuss the possibilities beyond. 

On the other hand, called the Austrian President called for providing all the necessary support and urgent humanitarian assistance to the affected displaced  people in Syria, pointing out that all humanitarian organizations in Austria and  Austrian TV campaign contributed  to raising   donations for displaced Syrians.
