Austria rejects Western proposals to ban Russian gas and oil

Vienna (ST): Austria has expressed its rejection of any Western embargo on natural gas and oil resources from Russia to Europe.

TASS news agency quoted Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer as telling OE24 television: “Austria is strongly dependent on Russian gas supplies, and therefore it clearly rejects the idea and proposal to stop gas or oil imports from Russia,”

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev recently warned that “European sanctions against the Russian Federation and the refusal to pay for gas in rubles may keep the European Union without gas.”

Several European countries have rejected proposals to ban energy resources from Russia.
