Australia imposes sanctions on Israeli settlers over crimes against Palestinians

Australia has imposed sanctions on Israeli settlers who have been accused of beating, sexually assaulting and torturing Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

“Financial sanctions and travel bans have been imposed on seven settlers and a settler group for their involvement in violent attacks on Palestinians, including beatings, sexual assault and torture, which have resulted in serious injuries and, in some cases, death,” Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said, according to Agence France-Presse.

Wong stressed that Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories are illegal under international law and constitute a major obstacle to peace.
