The Syrian Olympic Committee, represented by its President Firas Mualla, signed on Sunday a contract with Olympic champion Ghada Shouaa as a sports advisor to the Syrian Olympic Committee at the headquarters of the general Sports Federation in Damascus.
The Syrian athlete, according to the contract, will work on forming specialized committees whose tasks is to discover and refine talents in various games, through modern scientific training programs in coordination with the relevant games federations.
The head of the Syrian Olympic Committee, Firas Mualla, stressed the importance of benefiting from the experience of Shouaa in the fields of sports work, indicating that her presence constitutes an important addition to the advancement of Syrian sports, both in performance and as a result, by creating a new generation capable of competing strongly in foreign tournaments, especially Asian.
Despite the importance of participating in Arab championship, according to Mualla, and receiving its medals, it is no longer a measure of the development of our athletes, so the goal should be directed towards the continental and international forums.
Shouaa expressed her happiness to work with the Syrian Olympic Committee saying “ Syria is rich in sports talents, especially in the countryside, and it needs to be discovered” , adding” The next stage is a stage of intense work and requires the presence of qualified cadres at all levels”.
She pointed to the importance of the presence of female sports teams in various games in international tournaments, as work will be done to prepare strong teams according to modern training plans, and to provide their requirements and supplies to be strongly present in the upcoming eventsas well as attaining remarkable results that are added to the Syrian sports achievements.
The Syrian athlete Shouaa, who was born in 1972, is considered one of the greatest and most prominent Syrian athletes in the history of Syrian Olympic sports.She won the gold medal in Atlanta Olympics 1996 , and realized many international and continental achievements.
