At least 100 deaths, 150 injuries in a fire at wedding party in Iraqi province of Nineveh…PM orders three-day nationwide mourning
Baghdad–At least 100 people were killed and 150 others were injured after a fire broke out at a wedding celebration early on Wednesday in the Al-Hamdaniya district in Nineveh governorate in the north of Iraq, Iraqi media outlets reported.
The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, directed the Ministers of Interior and Health to intensify their efforts to provide relief to those affected by the unfortunate incident, according to a statement published by the Prime Minister’s Office via X, formerly Twitter.
The Prime Minister ordered a three-day nationwide mourning period in Iraq to honor the victims of the tragic fire.
The Civil Defense Directorate announced that firefighters were mobilized to control the incident.
The Iraqi Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, confirmed that civil defense teams managed to evacuate all those injured in the accident.
Al-Shammari told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that he went to Nineveh governorate to find out the repercussions of the fire that took place at the wedding hall.
The Iraqi Minister of Health, Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, directed medical teams to provide first aid and the necessary medical treatment for the injured.
