Artists Razan Al Ekkeh affirms importance of experimental thought in graphic

The “Mishwar Gallery “ in Damascus is hosting an art exhibition by artist Dr. Razan Al Ekkeh, who is displaying 28 graphic paintings about nature.

“I am using some elements from nature in abstract and expressive styles. You can see fish, or flower or tree. Nature is a dictionary from which each artist could select the word he/ she wants,” Dr. Al Ekkeh told Syria Times e-newspaper.

The artist clarified that nature opens wide horizons for artists to select the elements that have unique shape and colour.

“In my current experience in graphic , I focus on colour, not on white and black. As you know graphic is based on both white and black colours only. But when I say colour, it means that we have to think of nature,” she added.

Dr. Al Ekkeh went on to say that the goal of the exhibition at the technique level is to concentrate on the importance of experimental thought in the art of engraving far from traditional method to depict  it in a beautiful way as the artist feels free to arrange their art works to reach new plastic art solutions.

“Artists could use traditional techniques in a new way to create a new concept for shapes…..Coincidence factor plays a key role in the solutions that we could reach. Graphic has many techniques based on coincidences. Experimental technique has been a main base of modernity and contemporary art since the 20th century. So it is necessary to shed light on it,” she said.

The artist asserted that graphic includes many techniques and tools, and each technique includes many ways that could be used to serve our ideas and styles.

“I use more than one technique in each work to reach a new result and not a traditional one.  I have also used spontaneous way in my work, so my works have true feelings that will affect the people, who see my works,” Dr. Al Ekkeh declared.

She used the techniques of thermal screens, woodblock printing and metal printing in  her works.

It is worthy to note that Dr. Al Ekkeh took part in several collective exhibitions in Damascus and Daraa.
