Chairman of General Federation of Craft Associations (GFCA) Yassin Sayyed Hassan said that the coming period will witness the establishment of artisan village that contains hundreds of Syrian craftsmen and have a multi-faceted activity including the tourist side to be listed on the Syrian tourist destinations.
Chairman of the GFCA pointed out that work is underway to integrate with the Ministry of Economy to ensure an area of land to be allocated for artisan zones to be added to about 100 similar areas spread in the majority of provinces and cities, most recently in the town of Qirdaha, Lattakia to assemble crafts of local handicrafts and professions and framing their production to be exported.
In his speech to local press, chairman of the GFCA said that the craftsmen form the backbone of production in Syria as they are the main support for the economic sector, particularly the craftsmen make up 35% to 40% of the national production process.
According to craft revenues in the face of limited resources, chairman of the GFCA added that craftsmen turned with the beginning of the current crisis to fully fund themselves by themselves through a combination of investments.
Regard to the inputs of raw materials, Chairman of the GFCA said that the artisan depended on raw materials that are locally produced, but the crisis has imposed to go to the production and disposal of products directly and even export and secure the necessary raw materials including heritage products, copper materials and mosaic.
