Art exhibition in Damascus marking the 75th Foundation anniversary of the World Health Organization

Under the title “ Health for all” , the ministry of education in cooperation with the World Health Organization WHO held an art exhibition for children’s drawings on the occasion of the 75th foundation anniversary of the WHO.

The three-day cultural event, which is held at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Damascus , included more than 200 paintings to address a message concerning health and environment .

40 of the participating art works were honored during opening the exhibition and which were selected by a specialized committee.

Minister of Education Darem Tabbaa noted the importance of cooperation with the WHO which resulted in holding this exhibition which aims to create health awareness among students, pointing out that the displayed art works reflected these students’ awareness about the importance of health.

In turn, the representative of the World Health Organization in Syria, Dr. Iman Al-Shanqeeti, reviewed the WHO’s endeavor to develop the health of all citizens and enhance cooperation with all partners to support health systems and improve access to basic health services.

She made it clear that the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the WHO represents an opportunity to review the successes achieved in the field of public health and stimulate action to address challenges.

The first instructor of the art subject at the Directorate of Education in Damascus, plastic artist Mowaffaq Makhoul, pointed out that the exhibition is the result of a competition in which students from all schools participated and presented paintings on health.

He added that a committee was formed to examine 200 artworks to participate in the exhibition, so that 40 works were selected to be honored, stressing that the main goal of the competition is to spread health and environmental awareness among children and to present a message through their paintings, thus creating a healthy and environmental culture for them.

A number of students who won the competition highlighted the importance of participating in cultural competitions that develop their talents of drawing and teach them that the basis of health is preserving a healthy environment free of diseases by spreading health awareness about everything related to the environment.
