Arrest warrants issued against the participants in the Erbil Conference for Normalization

Baghdad (ST): The Iraqi judiciary issued summons against the participants in a conference organized by personalities and forces in the city of Erbil, during which it called for the normalization of relations with the Israeli occupation entity.

Judge Muhammad al-Jumaili, from the presidency of the Anbar Appeals Court, told news reporters in Baghdad, “The Anbar Investigation Court issued an arrest warrant for five people in accordance with Article 201 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which criminalizes any contact with the Zionist enemy or promotes Zionism, and sentences the perpetrators of this shameful, treacherous act to death.”

Al-Jumaili added: “Other arrest warrants were issued by the Karkh Investigation Court at the request of the Iraqi National Security Advisor against former MP Mithal Al-Alusi, whose membership was revoked by Parliament after a visit he made to the Israeli occupation entity, in addition to two other people.”

The Iraqi government confirmed yesterday that normalization with the Israeli occupation entity is constitutionally and legally rejected, and that such meetings do not represent the people and residents of Iraqi cities, noting that Iraq’s historical position is consistent in terms of supporting the just Palestinian cause, foremost of which is its right to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and rejecting all forms of settlement, aggression and occupation practiced by Israel against the Palestinian people.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi called for strict legal measures to be taken to silence dissonant voices calling for normalization with the Zionist entity, and to hold accountable anyone who tempted to prejudice national principles.

Al-Halbousi said in a statement, “The Iraqi position rejecting the so-called normalization with the Zionist entity will not change with the meeting of a group of hired men who tried in vain to distort Iraq’s firm, decisive and honorable position on the Palestinian issue.”

Political parties, parliamentary blocs and community organizations continued for the second day in a row their strong rejection and denunciation of what happened in Erbil, stressing that the conference is a crime and a high treason for the cause of the free people in the world.
