The French police forces have arrested 994 persons across France during demonstrations that broke out on the backdrop of the killing of a 17-year-old boy, named Nahel, in the Paris suburb of Nanterrem a few days ago.
AFP said on Saturday, citing the French Interior Ministry, that 79 policemen and gendarmes were injured during the clashes between the protestors and the policemen.
France deployed 45,000 policemen, backed by armoured vehicles, to suppress the protests which broke out on June 27 after police shot dead a 17-year-old driver in Paris. The killing incident led to angry demonstrations which included riots that spread to many other communities and big cities such as Dijon, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Strasbourg, and Toulouse. On the night of June 29, several dozen police cars were burned in protest against the police firing of tear gas against demonstrators and detaining many of them.
