Army Recaptures Palmyra: General Command

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The General Command of the Army and Armed Force announced that the army has regained control over the city of Palmyra after inflicting heavy losses upon Daesh terrorist organization.  

 “The Syrian Arab Army in cooperation with allied and supportive forces  have recaptured the city of Palmyra and the surrounding areas following successful military operations carried out against Daesh terrorists with a help by the Syrian and Russian air forces,” the General Command said in a statement on Thursday.

 The army engineering units are dismantling explosive devices left by the terrorists in the buildings , streets and public squares of the city, said the command.

“The new achievement is important because of the historical and cultural position of Palmyra and because this achievement coincided with the army’s victories in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo, thereby dealing a heavy blow to Daesh terror group which has begun to collapse under the strikes of the Syrian army and its allies,” according to the command.

Also, the command said,  “the achievement confirms  that the Syrian Arab army is the only effective force that is able to fight and uproot terrorism.”

It added that “regaining control over Palmyra paves the way for expanding the army’s military operations against Daesh at several axes and it tightens the a grip on the terrorist organization and cut s off the terrorists’ supply routes.”

 The command concluded the statement by stressing that the army in cooperation with its allies and supportive force is now more determined to continue its operations against Deash, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist groups until security and stability are restored countrywide.
