DAMASCUS- The general command of the army and armed forces announced on Monday that units of army, in cooperation with the backup forces, fulfilled their mission in restoring security and stability to al-Qaboun region and the farms surrounding it to the north-eastern side of Damascus after a series of special operations that dealt heavy blows to the terrorists of Jabhat al-Nusra and other affiliated groups, SANA reported.
The army’s general command said in a statement that the army, through the restoration of security and stability to al-Qaboun and the surrounding farms, has boosted the circle of security in the vicinity of Damascus and tightened the noose around the terrorist groups in eastern Ghouta, cut off their supplying routes and formed a base for eliminating the remaining of other terrorist cells in Damascus countryside.
It added that the army destroyed the gatherings and fortifications of the terrorist groups and a large number of tunnels that were used by the terrorists as supplying routes for the transportation of weapons and terrorists.
The general Command affirmed its determination to go ahead in the war against Takfiri terrorism, thanking the owners of national initiatives for their efforts in fulfilling the local reconciliations.
Governor: Al-Qaboun Area Now Clear of Armed Manifestations
According to a military source, security and stability were fully restored to the area of al-Qaboun and its surroundings to the north east of Damascus.
Earlier, Damascus Governor Bishr al-Sabban said the area of al-Qaboun at the eastern outskirts of Damascus was declared clear of all armed manifestations after the completion of the second phase of the settlement agreement, according to SANA.
The Governor added that the area of al-Qaboun is now completely clear of terrorists after the completion of the second and final phase of the evacuation of the armed groups from it.
He affirmed that the engineering units started to comb the area to dismantle IEDs and landmines which the armed groups left behind before exiting the area.
The governor went on to say that the number of persons who left al-Qaboun over the past two days reached at 3377, among them 1604 gunmen, adding that a large number of families had their cases settled.
The evacuation of the gunmen from al-Qaboun came after the hostilities stopped in the neighborhood which witnessed over the past weeks fierce battles between the units of the Syrian Arab Army and terrorist organizations, after which the terrorists finally announced their acceptance of the settlement agreement.
