Armenians protest against US-funded biological laboratories in their country

Yerevan, (ST) – the Armenian capital, Yerevan witnessed on Wednesday a protest march against biological laboratories operating in Armenia and funded by the US side.

According to RIA Novosti, the protesters gathered in front of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, some of whom were wearing gas masks.

One of the organizers of the protest marchthe Head of the “Zartunk” party, Ara Zohrabyan said that, eight biological laboratories are working in Armenia, funded by the US Ministry of Defense. He wondered why these laboratories working in health care are funded by the Pentagon and not by the Armenian Ministry of Health, and whether their work program contains a military component.

According to Zohrabyan, the Armenian community should reject this program because it poses a threat to public health and human experiments may be conducted in these laboratories. He stressed that the country’s legislation and international treaties prevent the development and production of biological weapons.

The protesters demanded a transparent investigation into the operations of biolabs in Armenia.

“Our country is not a testing ground and dignified Armenian citizens are not guinea pigs,” Zohrabyan said.
