Armenian Orthodox community in Al-Hasakah commemorates the 105th anniversary of Armenia’s independence

The Armenian community in Al-Hasakah on Wednesday celebrated the 105th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia, as part of a number of events held in the Armenian Orthodox Church of St. “Hofano Kerbet”.

The event included performing songs and poems in Arabic and Armenian that glorify independence and affirm adherence to the land.

The primate of the Armenian Orthodox diocese in Aleppo and its dependencies, Archbishop Makar Ashkaryan, said in a statement to SANA “ the celebration came as a result of the sacrifices of the martyrs who died in genocide committed by the Ottoman authorities, and our presence in Hasakah as a bishop of the Armenian Orthodox to consolidate loving the land and giving hope, especially after the difficult circumstances that Syria in general and the Jazira region in particular are going through”.

He added the Armenian people and the Syrian people have common bonds in terms of their love for sacrifice and heroism.

The Archbishop showed his appreciation for the sacrifices of the martyrs in Armenia and Syria wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded.

A number of members of the Armenian community participating in the celebration pointed out that the Armenian and Syrian people are one people who love life, reject all forms of injustice and support all peoples seeking freedom, stressing the celebration came thanks to the state of security and stability Syria is witnessing after 12 years of terrorist war which aimed to undermine Syria’s stability, security and social unity.
