Armenian Martyrs Church in Deir Ezzour holds the first Divine Liturgy after a ten-year hiatus

DEIR EZZOUR, April.21, (ST)- Today, the first Divine Liturgy was held in the Armenian Martyrs Church in Deir Ezzour, after a ten-year hiatus due to the destruction of the church by terrorist organizations.

The Divine Liturgy was held by the Armenian Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Aleppo Masis Zobuian with the participation of his deputy and a number of Fathers and priests of various Christian denominations, in the presence of official and popular people from Deir Ezzour.

The Archbishop Massis prayed to God to crown Syria’s leadership, people and army with great victory over the fiercest battles of hatred and injustice.

He also recited, during the prayer, mercy on the Armenian martyrs, who were killed by the Ottoman criminals.

Deir Ezzour Governor Fadel Najjar asserted that love and friendship gather the Syrian and Armenian peoples, referring to the crimes of the Ottomans against the Armenian people and the crimes of the Turkish regime against people and the state of Syria, which won and defeated the Turkish goals thanks to the awareness and cohesion between the people, the leadership and the Syrian Army, which cleansed Deir Ezzour from the mercenaries of the Turkish regime and defeated and thwarted its plans in the region.

For his part, Sheikh Abd al-Karim al-Dandal, one of the heads of the tribes in Deir Ezzour asserted that the members of the Armenian community were and will always remain part of the Syrian national fabric in general, and part of the people of Deir Ezzour, who are proud of their relations with their Armenian brothers who were Syrians and patriots and have always expressed their national belongingness.

In a statement to reporters, Archbishop Massis indicated that his visit to the city of Deir Ezzour carries several messages, the first is that security and safety have returned to the city and to remind of the massacres of the Ottomans against the Armenian people and how the Syrian people, especially in Deir Ezzour, welcomed them and opened doors and hearts for them to have the rights and the duties of the Syrian people.
