Argentina asserts its support for Syria’s sovereignty

BUENOS AIRES, Aug.25, (ST)- The Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Matteo Yesterami, has affirmed his country’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, pointing out that Argentina does not recognize the unilateral sanctions and considers them as unjust and irrelevant to international law and the UN Charter.

During his meeting with Sami Salameh, Syria’s ambassador in Buenos Aires, Yesterami described Syria as the main country in the Middle East and one of the factors of stability in it, stressing the importance of constant communication with the Syrian Embassy in Argentina to have an idea about Syrian stances towards various issues of common concern.

The two sides also discussed the agreements signed between the two friendly countries, mechanisms for their development and the possibilities of signing new executive programs to implement them for the common interests of the two countries.

The reconstruction process that Syria is currently witnessing and the ways of Argentine participation in it through encouraging Argentine businessmen to invest in it in light of the issuance of the new investment law for the year 2021 and its features for the benefit of foreign investors in Syria were also on the table.
