Archeological conference, exhibition on Syrian al-Marqab citadel kicked off in Hungary

An exhibition on the Syrian Qalaat al-Marqab [Margat] kicked off Tuesday in Rattskava city in Hungary in the presence of the Director of Cultural Relations in the Hungarian cabinet Mrs. Kotalin Shylock.

The 22-day exhibition held within the activities of the archeological conference being held in Esztergomcity includes the results of the joint Syrian-Hungarian mission operating in Qalaat al-Marqab [al-Marqab citadel], which is located near Baniyas city.

Head of the Hungarian team in the joint mission Professor Balaj Mayor gave a detailed explanation about the paintings featured in the exhibition, focusing on the international responsibility to protect the common human civilization and heritage in Syria.

In this context, the Directorate-General of  Antiquities and Museums (DGAM) said on its website that a delegation from the directorate plus other delegations from Lebanon, Germany, Britain, Spain, Bosnia, Croatia, Romania and Hungary are taking part in the archeological conference from August 7 till August 28.

The participants are discussing modern methods in protecting the cultural heritage, technical engineering software, technological three-dimensional documentation and modern ways of excavation.
